§ 24-39. Same—Notice; collection.

  • Upon failure or refusal of any owner of real estate to pay water rents and rates due, the town clerk, after delivering the notice provided in section 24-36, in addition to the right of disconnection and discontinuance of such, may certify the amount of rents and rates, and the penalties and interest thereon, to the assessor or county treasurer then having possession of the tax list of the town, to be by him placed upon such tax list for the current year and to be collected in the same manner as other taxes are collected, with ten percent of the amount or rents, rates and penalties and interest due thereon in addition thereto to defray cost of collection; and the lien of the delinquent rents, rates and penalties when so certified by the town clerk as aforesaid shall be on a parity with the lien of the general taxes on the property.
